Aeternitas Tower, another imposing structure is about to join Dubai’s skyline following its official unveiling at a launch event last week and will stand at a startling 450 metres (1,476 feet) tall, making it the world’s tallest residential clock tower.
At that height, it will surpass Big Ben in London by more than four times and fall just 22 metres (72 feet) short of the world’s tallest residential building, the Central Park Tower in New York City, according to CNN.
London Gate, a real estate developer located in Dubai, and Franck Muller, a luxury watch manufacturer based in Switzerland, have partnered to create Aeternitas Tower, which is expected to become the second-tallest clock tower in the world, behind the Makkah Clock Royal Tower in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The developer, London Gate, recognised that the tower’s massive scale required a spectacular exterior when it bought the plot of land in Dubai Marina, which already featured the foundations of an incomplete 106-story project, according to Tom Hill, the firm’s coordinator for media relations.
“We believe the clock will be seen from six kilometres away because of the sheer height of the building,” said Hill, stating that the massive clock face will measure 30 metres (98 feet) in width and 40 metres (131 feet) in height.
“We wanted to do something different that hasn’t been done before in Dubai,” said Hill.
