In a historic moment at the annual charity event hosted by Games Done Quick, a Shiba Inu named Peanut Butter made gaming history by becoming the first canine to rush through a video game, the New York Post reported.

The event, where players speedrun to beat video games as quickly as possible, witnessed Peanut Butter completing the 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System game “Gyromite” in 26 minutes and 24 seconds on Tuesday. The canine participant came close to breaking the world record, falling just over two minutes short.

Peanut Butter’s owner, known as JSR on social media, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “I’m very proud of my dog. We worked hard for a very long time to get to the point where we were able to showcase a run at [Awesome Games Done Quick].” The Shiba Inu was trained to press buttons on a custom-made controller, guided by JSR, who rewarded the dog with treats.

Games Done Quick has a history of unique speedruns, and Peanut Butter’s accomplishment adds another dimension to the event. The charity marathon in January 2023 raised $2.6 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and the summer event generated $2.2 million for Doctors Without Borders. 

JSR confirmed Peanut Butter’s plans to participate in future events, expressing the hope to continue the dog’s gaming legacy at Games Done Quick.
