A 3.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the San Bernardino County area on Thursday night, striking at approximately 11:38 pm, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), KTLA reported.

The epicentre was situated about 2 miles southeast of Ontario, near the Ontario International Airport, with a depth of around 7.4 miles.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage. While California frequently experiences numerous minor earthquakes each year, incidents surpassing 3.0 magnitudes are not uncommon.

The California Department of Conservation notes that the most powerful quake recorded in the state measured 7.9 magnitudes and occurred in Fort Tejon on January 9, 1857.

Residents can use KTLA’s interactive map to monitor the latest seismic activity in Southern California and provide their earthquake experience through the USGS Felt Report online.
