Trump co-defendant Michael Roman had accused Willis of having romantic affair with prosecutor Nathan Wade
Former US president Donald Trump criticised Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after she publicly admitted to having a “personal relationship” with the top prosecutor on Trump’s criminal case in Georgia, The Hill reported.
“Fani Willis, the DA of Fulton County, just admitted to having a sexual relationship with the prosecutor she, in consultation with the White House and DOJ, appointed to ‘GET PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP’,” he posted.
“By going after the most high-level person, and the Republican Nominee, she was able to get her ‘lover’ much more money, almost a Million Dollars, than she would be able to get for the prosecution of any other person or individual,” Trump’s post continued.
“THAT MEANS THAT THIS SCAM IS TOTALLY DISCREDITED & OVER!”
In a court filing Friday, Willis acknowledged her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, after Trump co-defendant Michael Roman accused her of having a romantic affair with him last month.
However, she said she wouldn’t step aside on the case despite Roman’s claims that the relationship made the indictment “fatally defective”.
In response to the swirling allegations, Willis said the motion was designed to garner media attention and provide a defence of Wade and his legal capabilities.
Meanwhile, Wade said in an affidavit that he was no more than friends with Willis at the time of his 2021 hiring and the two developed a personal relationship in 2022.
Roman, along with Trump, has requested the dismissal of charges against him and for the Fulton County district attorney’s office, Willis, and Wade to be blocked from handling the case.
The relationship is a recent development in Trump’s prosecution, as he faces four criminal indictments amid his presidential campaigns. While not yet the Republican nominee for the 2024 election, he has a strong chance of securing a third consecutive nomination with Nikki Haley, the only other GOP candidate in the race.
