WATCH: Babar Azam’s fifty leads to heated exchange with opponent’s wicket-keeper


In a thrilling Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) encounter between Rangpur Riders and Durdanto Dhaka, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam stole the spotlight not just with his brilliant fifty but also for a fiery on-field clash with Durdanto Dhaka’s wicketkeeper, Irfan Sukkur.

Babar who is currently displaying his cricketing skills for Rangpur team in the aforementioned tournament, delivered an exceptional performance. 

He amassed a remarkable 62 runs off 46 balls, featuring five boundaries and one six, showcasing a robust strike rate of 134.78 against Durdanto Dhaka. His stellar contribution played a vital role in guiding his team to a substantial total of 183/8.

However, things got heated up in the 13th over as tensions flared between Babar and Irfan Sukkur. The heated exchange between the two players drew the focus of both onlookers and fellow players. 

Adding to the drama, during the drinks break, Babar Azam was overheard stating, “I am not talking to you, I am talking to me,” in a visibly heated manner.

Despite attempts by the umpire and Dhaka’s captain Mosaddek Hossain to diffuse the situation, Babar remained visibly upset, refusing to let go of the on-field spat.

Despite being set a target of 184 runs by the Rangpur Riders, Durdanto Dhaka found themselves dismissed for 104 runs before the completion of the 17th over. Although Alex Ross showcased an impressive innings with a 35-ball 51 runs, it ultimately proved futile.

Pakistan’s young batting sensation, Saim Ayub, introduced himself in the BPL 2024 with a trademark ‘no-look’ six shot and scored 14-ball 17 runs, but the team fell short, losing the match by a margin of 79 runs.
